The 2008 Italian Challenge

On the weekend of 5th and 6th July, 2008, AROCA Qld will host the 2008 Italian Challenge. Run as part of Queensland Raceways' Queensland Racing Drivers Championship the 2008 Italian Challenge is open to all AROCA club members and an invitation is also issued to the Fiat, Ferrari and Lancia owners clubs.

Qualifying and racing will take place over the Saturday and Sunday and will be run under the AASA banner, with QR Racing Drivers Championship rules applying. Each race will most likely be run on the Clubman Circuit, over seven or eight laps. There will be two qualifying sessions on the Saturday, with one race Saturday afternoon and at least two races on Sunday.

Drivers will need to hold a AASA National licence or equivalent CAMS licence to compete. If you are a regular sprinter, the AASA National is a simple upgrade from your Clubman licence, at a cost of $155 for the upgrade or $210 outright. Licence forms can be obtained from Qld Raceways.

Entry fees for the weekend's racing will set you back $175 for an early bird fee (due in no later than Friday, June 20. Otherwise the cost is $225 and entry forms must be received by Qld Raceways no later than Friday, July 4. Entry forms for the event can be downloaded from the Queensland Raceway website www.qldraceways.com.au, under the Queensland Racing Drivers Championship section.

Vehicle safety requirements are also outlined on the QR website. Cars need a minimum half cage, race seat, harness (minimum four point and current date), safety cut out switch and fire extinguisher. Check the website for the full details to avoid any scrutineering anxiety on race day.

Competitors will also need to nominate with Alfacomp Competition Secretary Ken Percival. If you are seriously considering having a run in this event please contact KP as soon as possible as we need 15 or more cars to form the group and we need to guage numbers over the next month.

So if you are a racer or just a keen Alfisti, mark down the weekend of July 5 and 6 in your diary for the 2008 Italian Challenge. See you at the race track!
